Policy/Advocacy Strategies 2013 Accomplished Strategies Strategies in the Making • Collaboration with Legislative Black Caucus Members • Partnership with National Council of Black State Legislators • Establishment of the CBHN Black Infant Health Alliance • Collaborative Grant Applications leading to funding for 10 statewide CBO’s and CBHN • Partnership with Golden State Medical Association on policy/advocacy issues • Participation in broad-based work groups addressing specific policy issues: • • • • Boys and Men of Color Black Infant Health Environmental/Energy Mental Health & Cultural Competency for African Americans • Partnership with Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson on Health Agenda • Partnership conversatrions with Debbie Raphael, Director, Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) • Resource to the Congressional Black Caucus on ACA implementation issues • Colors of Commitment Movement to be expanded and promoted. Goal: 5000 wristbands distributed across the sate by 2015. • Developing a national model for addressing prevention/wellness strategies and associated policy implications in the Faith-based community

Town Hall on Health Reform • Major IT improvements including tools designed to improve employee efficiency and productivity • Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson’s ACA Day • Congressional Black Caucus Forum on African American Physician's under the ACA • Community Health Charities Board of Directors • Tentative “partnership” with Association of Black Women’s Physicians • Appointment to the First 5 Commission Steering Committee • Tentative partnership with John Hopkins University School of Public Health around the integration of environmental health and prevention and wellness policy. • Social Media Upgrade & Expansion • Website Upgrades • Online Fund Development Implemented • Environmental Electronic Waste Program implemented • Drafted Environmental Health White Paper

The CBHN/Alere Faith-based Policy Initiative • $100,000 Grant • A model for behavioral change • Involved 6 churches • 125 participants • Data collection to support prevention/wellness policy initiative • White paper being drafted to outline policy implications • TCE’s Dr. Robert Ross has indicated keen interest in this project.
