Remembrance Day?
We celebrate Remembrance Day to
honour the soldiers that died in wars.
But it’s means more than that to me!

The Korean War
Many Canadian soldiers fought and died in World War II. This was
a big war with many countries fighting against each other. Before
this big war, Korea was controlled by Japan. Japan was one of the
countries that lost in World War II, so Korea was finally free.

Korea was divided in two
parts, the North and the
South. The winners of World
War II were supposed to help
Korea because they weren’t
free in a long time. Russia
helped the North, and the
United States helped the
South.
Everything was good for a
few years so the Russians
and the Americans left North
and South Korea.

In June of 1950, the North Korean army came into South Korea and started a
long three year war.
There were many countries that came to help South Korea.
This is a picture of the some
of the flags of the countries that
came to help South Korea when the
war started. My momma took this
picture when we went to the
cemetery where the soldiers that
died in the Korean War are buried.

Canada was one of those countries that helped
South Korea fight the North. 1558 Canadian
soldiers were hurt and 516 of them died fighting
in the Korean War. The next pictures are from
the cemetery where some of these Canadian
soldiers and other countries soldiers that died are
buried. This is where I was born.

War are buried here in my
hometown, Pusan, South Korea.

This statue is to remember the Canadian
soldiers that died in the Korean War. It was
made by a Canadian army man and a Korean
artist.

All the names of the soldiers that died from all
the countries are written on this wall. There are
almost 41,000 names.

The Korean War
After fighting hard for three years, the North and
South decided to stop fighting.
This war is not really over, though. No one was a
winner.
If Canada didn’t help, maybe North Korea would
have won.
If this had happened, South Korea would not be
free, and I would not be born.
This is why Remembrance Day is important to me.
