13. How to Get Social? Social media is important because it makes you and your organization approachable and can cause your followers to "take ownership" of your success. Engage them - what you're doing and why (in a non-spammy way). Twitter - [be funny, vulnerable, informative] Make sure you have a photo, and fully complete the profile info. If someone follows you.... unless they are a robot you should follow them back, can always create lists to manage if you want to only view certain feeds. Talk to people. Re-Tweet their information. You should engage with others more than you “talk”. Facebook - [be social, don't overpost, be informative, be relevant, reach out and tag others in your status updates] Do not go to random fan pages and post your "ad" - if I'm friends with you and like the page your on posting on... it spams me and is very annoying. Especially when you copy and paste to several pages within minutes. If you haven't heard of “subscribing,” on Facebook, be sure to take a look, great way to connect with fans of your company without become "friends". Northsocial.com - Great app that makes your Facebook page more interactive... promote your company, run contests, even sell items right there on Facebook.
