4. Stephanie, Isaiah and Sandy were waiting for the morning bell to ring as their friend, Dennis, raced up to them.
“The coolest thing happened at my grandparents’ house this weekend,” Dennis said excitedly.

5. “My whole family was at their house to celebrate my grandpa’s 80th birthday. Right after the
best chocolate cake ever, he asked all the kids to help him with a special birthday project. I didn’t
know what the special project was yet, but I know my grandpa and this was going to be fun!”

6. “You mean you were ready to do something you knew nothing about?” Stephanie asked.
“You bet,” said Dennis, “and you’ll never believe what happened next. On his own birthday,
Grandpa George gave each one of us a $100 bill!”

7. “That’s a totally huge amount of money!” Stephanie exclaimed, wishing someone had given her $100.
“I know,” Dennis said.
“But why would your grandpa give each of you $100?” asked Stephanie.
“Grandpa George said it’s money he saves each year to give away to people or places that need the money.
This year, he wanted to see what we would do with the money. There are only two rules. We can’t spend it
on ourselves and we have to go out and do something good with it.”

8. “That’s all Grandpa George said, that you should go out and do something good with it?” Isaiah asked as he
pulled out his pencil and notebook.
“And not spend it on yourself,” Stephanie sighed.
“That’s it,” Dennis answered. “Now, I need to figure out what to do with the money.”
The friends agreed to help Dennis figure out what to do with his $100 at their regular meeting of The
Millionaire Kids Club after school. Last year, the four friends started The Millionaire Kids Club to help
them decide what to do with the money they earned from a garage sale. The club was so much fun that they
decided to meet once a week to learn about money and to handle the occasional money challenge like the
one Dennis was working on right now.

9. When Mrs. Berry walked into the room, she was holding an empty
grocery bag.
“Good morning, class,” she said. “I had planned to teach you all
about donating today, but first, I have a real problem and I need
everyone’s help to solve it.”
