Generic Dostinex (Cabgolin Tablets) are used for
the treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders
including amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea,
anovulation and galactorrhea.
Generic Dostinex is also used to treat patients with
prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas.

Active Ingredient
The active ingredient in Generic
Dostinex (Cabgolin Tablets) is
Cabergoline, which is a dopamine
receptor agonist.
The 0.5 mg tablets of Cabgolin
contain 0.5 mg of Cabergoline.

Indications
Suppression of Lactation
Generic Dostinex (Cabgolin Tablets) can
also be prescribed to prevent the
production of milk in women after birth, if
breast-feeding is to be prevented for
medical reasons. Generic Dostinex
suppresses physiological lactation by
inhibiting prolactin secretion.

Indications
Treatment of Hyperprolactinaemic Disorders:
Generic Dostinex is used for the treatment of
dysfunctions associated with hyperprolactinaemia,
including amenorrhoea, oligomenorrhoea,
anovulation and galactorrhoea. Cabgolin is also
indicated in patients with prolactin-secreting
pituitary adenomas (micro- and
macroprolactinomas), idiopathic
hyperprolactinaemia, or empty sella syndrome
with associated hyperprolactinaemia.

Recommended Adult Dosage
Treatment of Hyperprolactinaemic
Disorders:
To treat high levels of prolactin
(hyperprolactinaemia), the recommended
starting dose is 0.25mg taken twice a week.
The weekly dose of Generic Dostinex should
be increased gradually preferably by adding
0.5mg per week at monthly intervals until the
optimal therapeutic response is achieved.

Recommended Adult Dosage
Inhibition of Lactation:
To prevent the production of milk, the
recommended dose is 1mg (two 0.5mg
tablets) as a single dose taken once,
on the first day after delivery.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as
you remember.
However, if you remember when it is
almost time for your next dose, take
only your usual dose at that time.

9. Generic Dostinex Tablets
Contraindications
Generic Dostinex Tablets are
contraindicated in the following
cases:
➔Known hypersensitivity to Cabergoline or
any inactive ingredients of this medication.
➔Uncontrolled hypertension.
➔Known hypersensitivity to ergot
derivatives.
➔History of cardiac valvular disorders
➔History of pulmonary, pericardial, or
retroperitoneal fibrotic disorders.

Side Effects of Generic Dostinex
Most side effects were transient and mild
to moderate in severity. The most
frequently occurring side effects were
dizziness/vertigo, headache, nausea
and abdominal pain. Rarely occuring
side effects were palpitations, epigastric
pain, somnolence, epistaxis and
transient hemianopsia, vomiting,
syncope, asthenia, and hot flushes.

Warnings And Precautions
➔Pregnancy: Dopamine agonists in general should not
be used in patients with pregnancy-induced
hypertension, for example, preeclampsia, eclampsia,
and post partum hypertension, unless the potential
benefit is judged to outweigh the possible risk.
➔Cardiac Valvulopathy: All patients should undergo a
cardiovascular evaluation, including echocardiogram
to assess the potential presence of valvular disease. If
valvular disease is detected, the patient should not be
treated with Generic Dostinex.
➔Extracardiac Fibrotic Reactions: Postmarketing
cases of pleural, pericardial, and retroperitoneal
fibrosis have been reported following administration
of Generic Dostinex.

Warnings And Precautions
➔General: Initial doses higher than 1.0 mg may
produce orthostatic hypotension. Care should be
exercised when administering Generic Dostinex with
other medications known to lower blood pressure.

13. Generic Dostinex Tablets
Overdosage Symptoms
Overdosage is likely to lead to
symptoms due to over-stimulation of
dopamine receptors.
The adverse effects may include
nausea, vomiting, gastric complaints,
hypotension, nasal congestion,
confusion hallucinations, psychosis or
thought/perception disturbances.

14. Generic Dostinex Tablets
Overdose Treatment
Administration of activated charcoal has to
be considered in the event of a potentially
toxic ingestion. Activated charcoal is most
effective when administered within 1 hour
of ingestion.
In patients who are not fully conscious or
have impaired gag reflex, consideration
should be given to administering activated
charcoal via nasogastric tube once the
airway is protected.

Overdose Treatment
Measures to support blood pressure
should be taken if necessary.
In addition, in case of pronounced
central nervous system effects the
administration of dopamine antagonist
drugs may be advisable.
