Indications
Motilium is used for the symptomatic
treatment of the dyspeptic symptom
complex which is often associated
with delayed gastric emptying or
gastro-oesophageal reflux and
oesophagitis, epigastric sense of
fullness, feeling of abdominal
distension, upper abdominal pain,
eructation, flatulence, heartburn.

including functional, organic,
infectious, dietetic origin, or
induced by radiotherapy,

Active Ingredient
The active ingredient present in
Motilium Tablets is Domperidone.
Domperidone is a white to slightly
beige coloured powder that is
practically insoluble in water.
Domperidone is a dopamine
antagonist with antiemetic
properties.

Recommended Adult Dosage
The normal recommended dose of
Motilium is one 10 mg tablet
three to four times, best taken 15
to 30 minutes before meals or
food, and if necessary at bedtime.
Safety and efficacy of Motilium
(Domperidone) use beyond six
months has not been established.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as
you remember.
However, if you remember when it is
almost time for your next dose, take
only your usual dose at that time.

Contraindications
Motilium Tablets are contraindicated in the
following cases:
➔Known hypersensitivity to Domperidone or
any inactive ingredients of this medication.
➔In those patients with a prolactin-releasing
pituitary tumour (prolactinoma).

stopping treatment:
Uncontrollable movements
Irregular or no menstrual period
Unusual secretion of breast milk or
Decrease in sex drive in men or women
Breast tenderness or breast

Side Effects of Motilium Tablets
STOP using Motilium Tablets and inform
your doctor immediately if any of the
following happen:
You have an allergic reaction to Motilium
(allergy can be recognised, for instance,
by skin rash, itching, shortness of breath
and/or swelling of the face, lips, mouth,
tongue or throat which may cause
difficulty in swallowing or breathing)

Warnings And Precautions
➔The film-coated tablets contain lactose and may be
unsuitable for patients with lactose intolerance,
galactosemia or glucose/galactose malabsorption.
➔Since the elimination half-life of domperidone is
prolonged in severe renal impairment, on repeated
administration the dosing frequency of motilium
should be reduced to once or twice daily, depending
on the severity of the impairment, and the dose may
need to be reduced.
➔Breast feeding is not recommended for mothers who
are taking Motilium.

Overdosage Symptoms
Symptoms of overdosage may include
disorientation, somnolence and
extrapyramidal reactions.

16. Motilium Tablets
Overdose Treatment
There is no specific antidote to
Domperidone, but in case overdose
occurs, the administration of activated
charcoal may be useful.
Anticholinergics, antiparkinson drugs
may be useful in controlling
extrapyramidal reactions.
The patient has to be observed closely
and supportive measures employed.
