Are YOU Going to Extremes? Dieting Gone Wrong
1. Are YOU Going to Extremes? Dieting Gone Wrong
Weight Loss
There is nothing wrong with trying to lose
weight and dieting. In fact, it is
encouraged, considering that nearly two
out three American adults are
overweight. Losing those excess pounds
make us look good, which in turn makes
us feel good. You can achieve a healthy
lifestyle by eating the right foods and
exercising.
But for some, that weight loss has
spiraled out of control. Boundaries and
limits are lifted as the need to lose fat increases. The person creates a horrible image of themselves
in their mind, and they are desperate to get thin, no matter the price.
Disasterous Diets
Diet. The word sends mixed emotions. The attempts to lose weight, the hunger, the misery. The
success until you binge, and then the overall self disappointment. Many of us try to avoid calling
them diets, or just avoid diets altogether. But for some people, those diets are taken far beyond then
normal limits of self- starvation.
We have all heard of the atkins diet, the grapefruit diet, the slim fast diet, etc... Those are all
common, and for some, they have shown great results. But some diets are just so absurd, who would
think to try them?
The Cotton Ball Diet- The only thing on the menu are cotton balls, which can be eaten either dry or
soaked in gelatin. They are good for the waistline, but murderous for digestion. The Good- you'll lose
weight. The Bad- you'll slowly starve to death.
2. The Tapeworm Diet- For aspiring parasitic
hosts, you will either pop a pill containing
eggs or swallow a live one. Sound good? It
gets better. These tapeworms will grow in the
gut to consume extra food. Major health
complications can include digestive tract
blockage, organ damage, and even death.
Have fun!
The Air diet- If you thought that the air diet
meant that you eat air, you guessed right!
Pretend eating, it's all the new rage. Dieters dish up a plate, and as if they are actually eating, they
bring the fork or spoon to their mouth. But the thing is, you don't actually eat it. They claim to feel
satisfied from the act of mimicking.
The Sleeping Beauty Diet- Doesn't sound bad, right? Sleeping all day to avoid eating is harmless,
right? Wrong. The idea is to sleep 24/7 for several days, which might take sleeping pills to achieve.
While isn't truly dangerous, you might overdose on sedatives and never wake up.
The Forking Diet- The idea is to only eat food that can be served and eaten with a fork- no slicing,
dicing, spreading, grating, rolling, or scooping. This prevents the eating of condiments, meats, and
breads, which are all calorie- laden.
The Five- Bite Diet- This diet is a lesson of extreme portion control by eating five bites of any food
you want three times a day.
The Get Sick to Lose Weight Diet- So basically, you purposely infect yourself in order for your body
to burn calories while you are sick
The All You Can Eat Insect Diet- Insects are supposed to be very high in nutrients and fiber. During
this diet you eat nothing but those crawlers. Personally, if I saw bugs on my plate, I would lose
weight to because i would be sick!
