Demo of using embedded data in the digital archive system Omeka.

2. Log into the Omeka System

3. Click Items and then “Add an Item”

4. Click Files tab and then Choose File button

5. Select an image that has an embedded Dublin Core record in it. You can create such an image at http://www.embedmydata.com Make sure the check box is marked telling the system to utilize the embedded data. Click Add Item

6. Click “Edit” under the new record created.

7. The embedded data is automatically populated into the Omeka record. Click “Add Input” under one of the fields, such as “Title”

8. Add a second title to the record and click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

9. The data you just added to the record is now automatically embedded into the images on the servers. Including the derivatives such as the thumbnails. To test this click the “Visit Public Site” button at the upper right. You image should appear with a preview thumbnail. Right click on the image to get the URL of the thumbnail.

10. Go to www.embedmydata.com and use that URL in the tool.

11. All versions of the image contains a complete Dublin Core record. Promoting interoperability and cultivating semantic data on the Internet.
