Q4: How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
1. Planning
-During the planning and research stage of our project
some new media technologies were used within this
stage.
-One plan was to use a hipass feature at the star of the
music video which muffled any sound from the song Then when the main star put his headphones in the
music started playing. The hipass effect was created on
Adobe Premiere Pro, however the effect was never
used in the music video.
2. -The blogging site Wordpress was vital in our planning and
research stages helping us digitally document progress throughout
the project. This was a great piece of new technology as it was like
a Diary on the go as I had access to it anywhere - being available to
download as an App on my smartphone.
-Throughout this stage a wide range of technologies and websites
became vital to help create our final construction, such as google
maps which enabled us to show our locations and youtube clips of
previous music videos where we gained intial inspiration.
3. -During the planning stages we shot test footage with a HD Sony
Camera. This high definition technology helped gain high quality
stills and footage which meant when the final music video came to
be rendered it could be done in the highest quality possible giving
the video a more professional look.
-We used this camera to film test footage of tracking shots which
would be performed in the music video. The camera was placed
on a wheeled dolly. The combination of these two media products
didn’t work so well as the four wheels picked up the unsteadiness
of the pavement meaning the couldn’t film footage smoothly and
noiselessly. For the final product we filmed the tracking shot
handheld which worked better for the overall showing movement
more clearly.
4. Construction
-After filming had begun we digitally edited the footage using Adobe Premiere Pro. I
initially found the use of this new media technology quite challenging as I had never
used this piece of software before, however I got to grips with the software pretty
quick and found it relatively easy to edit and construct the footage we had filmed
with the programme having a clear and precise layout.
-The filters and transition effects were clear adjusting the colour of footage allowing
us to experiment with filters and effects in which there was a vast range.
-However one big setback that arose in the new media technology during the
construction of the overall product was the time clips took to render after they
had been edited in. We couldn’t watch back our footage unless it had been
rendered which hindered the editing process massively, if short clip was moved or
added rendering time could take up to 20 minutes. This slowed down editing time
as there was a lot of editing to do by cutting short clips and became the biggest
drawback of the software.
-Overall I found the editing software quite useful and was a vital element in the
construction of the music video helping create conventional genre characteristics.
5. -Another programme used within the construction of the final product
was Adobe Photoshop CS6 which was used to create the two ancillary
tasks - the digipack and the magazine ad.
-Photoshop helped greatly throughout the project and worked well in
combination with Adobe Premiere Pro with similar fonts and effects.
At times I found Photoshop quite confusing because of its vast content
but the programme made both ancillary tasks look professional which
again helped portray the genre of the band.
- I learnt many new techniques on photoshop including simple
techniques such as overlay and adding images on top of another. I
found photoshop an incredibly useful tool helping sell the overall tasks
as one professional product.
