Till, 27.11.04: checked out the place on Saturday evening: It’s a really nice place! The
location really looks like on the pics. But one would expect that 23:00 on a Sat evening is
a bars prime time – so having half of the tables empty is a bad sign. And it kills the
atmosphere. Probably one should go their with a big group of people and just bring the
atmosphere along ☺.

prague.tv: The popular James Bond Café in Vinohrady has changed its face and its
name and is now fully focused on nightlife. The interior now includes gold bar fittings,
seating with a built-in aquarium and pop-art wall decorations, creating a perfect cocktail
bar atmosphere. There are many colorful new cocktails and special drinks on the menu,
four kinds of beer on tap, a completely new action-themed food menu and many other
regular items, including excellent Musetti coffee. There's also a newly installed projection
TV screen. With good music, chic staff and a great atmosphere there are so many
reasons to come and try it out!
Private parties and company banquets are also possible.

World’s Best Bars: The name might suggest a heavy metal hangout but it's Prague's
elite who cram in here for succulent sushi and the coolest cocktails. A large, stylish space
with a slick steel bar, cut-glass chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows, the walls are
dotted with moody pics of pouting Czech models and that beauty next to you with the
Whiskey Sour might well be one of them. Owned by Tommy Sjoo and Nils Jebens who
run the trendy Kampa Park restaurant on the river. But did they mean Baroque?

Expats.cz: Much more than coffee and liquor, fashion TV, funky and free. If you are in
Prague and you want to rub shoulders with the hip and the chic, the cool and the proud,

In your pocket: The beer-drinking ethos that Cheers wants to epitomise with its
unaffiliated-to-any-brewery full range of beers is marred by the bright lights, pumping
club tunes and Fashion TV on the tube. Overpriced and uninspiring food doesn’t add to
the sterile atmosphere. Maybe it’ll chill out and have some fun later.

Prague Post Site (Best bar in town, reader’s choice): The people have spoken,
and the people are very, very hip. Eschewing the obvious spots in the center, they
selected tiny, down-at-the-heels Hapu as the Best place to wet your whistle. What few
seats there are fill up quickly, but the well-made drinks make up for any lack of elbow
room.

World’s Best Bars: Hip new cocktail lounge that's not quite as posey as Bugsy's or
Barock but getting there. Drinks, expertly prepared by friendly magazine-cover bar staff
of both sexes, are served in the laid-back carpet-and-sofa living room. It's happening at
Hapu.

Till: Empfehlung von MP. Sehr relaxed, leicht angesifft, Abhängen mit Bier.

Avant-Guide: Dig if you will a picture of a 1990s off-campus college bar with functional
tables and cute waitresses and rock 'n roll on the stereo at all times. Beer is cheap, the
volume is loud, and it's so well located that you can easily stumble home. Much less
debauched than its name would imply, the Marquis De Sade is a good place to order a
shot of quot;t'kill yaquot; or Prague-brewed Staropramen and hit on fellow expat slackademics.
They've often got live music on weekends, and when you get booted at closing time,
they'll kindly give you a plastic cup in which to take the rest of your beer.

Solidni.

Yahoo! Travel: This large, airy space is currently the spot for singles cruising singles
and loud, dumb fun (not necessarily the same thing). The crowd is predominantly Czech
and under thirty but expats and tourists are by no means unrepresented. The food of
choice is not unexpectedly of the liquid variety but there is a menu offering tasty meat
dishes off the grill, most costing between 95-140 Kc. The small dance floor suffers
needlessly every time the DJ spins tracks from Grease.

Motylek.com: A shrine to the golden days of expat slacking whose long-closed original
location at Obecni dum was once immortalised by Nick Cave, who apparently felt very
sorry there. Nowadays its burgers, Murphys Stout and Lobkowicz, jubilant disporting by
Yanks and a handful of Czechs, and summer breezes in the little patio out back.

Pragueexperience.com: The Thirsty Dog in Prague has transformed itself into the First
& Last Bar. With hearty all day breakfasts and daily late night opening until 2am, the
First & Last name certainly fits. For those staying in this area of town, First & Last is also
a friendly little bar to start the evening off in. Then, when you’ve drunk and danced your
will in the clubs of Prague, somewhere to pop in for that very last night cap. That’s not to
say it’s not worth staying for a few hours either. There’s table football, pinball and plenty
of cool tunes to keep the crowd entertained. The beer is also reasonable Prague prices.
There’s a decent pub grub menu as well, serving up well prepared pizza, pasta, Czech-
Mex, fish & chips, curry and even a delicious Sunday roast.
A few TV screens dotted around the bar show the English Premiership, Champions
League and major tournaments.
This old face on the Prague nightlife scene has had a makeover, and all in all, the First &
Last bar is certainly worth a visit. If you are in Prague for a long weekend, and you are in
the area, it’s a friendly bar to call your “local” for a few days.

drinks for years now, and his stylish Old Town bar is a regular showcase for beautiful
people out on the town. We like it anyway -- partly for the stargazing, partly for the
excellent mind-erasers.

World’s Best Bars: Set in the heart of the Old Town, Tretter’s is a cocktail connoisseurs
heaven: up to 200 concoctions available from 150 classics to 50 new creations, many the
work of the bar's owner and globe trotting master mixologist Michael Tretter. An elegant
old style interior with red upholstery, classy tables and a beautiful, long dark-wood
counter, all the drinks taste good but try the bourbon, lime juice and grenadine special
called the New Yorker and see if it transports you to Manhattan. The ultra potent Zido, a
fruity mix of Cachaca, white rum, coconut syrup, lime and papaya juice is another
winner, though you may not be standing afterwards. Four charming bar staff, one with
an orchid behind his ear, take such care with their creations you almost don’t want to
drink them. Those interested might even want to enlist in one of Tretter’s mixology
teach-ins. Regulars are a sexy crowd of fashion, film and business types, here for great
drinks, great décor and high-octane flirting. Join them.

Avant-Guide: Michael Tretter (Ocean Drive), one of Prague's premier mixologists
opened this cocktailian temple to showcase the considerable skills of his suspender-
wearing, bottle-spinning bartenders. Indeed, the bar itself has pride of place here,
occupying about half of the entire space. From the sophisticated lettering on curtained
windows, to the dark wood furnishings, this place looks like a cocktail bar is supposed to
look. And Tretter's is as good a spot to take a date as it is to find one.

World’s Best Bars: Attractive staff once again translate as sulky service, but at least
the hip and friendly young crowd who come in here are not still waiting to be discovered.
The drawcard is a well-stocked bar and a cocktail list that's longer than an Indian Ocean
island, with many martini and margarita variations to go with your favourite Black Bush
shot. Decor is more Malibu-pink and Vegas-neon than Zanzibar though.

Avant-Guide: On a tiny street just steps from Charles Bridge, this colorful cocktail bar is
the perfect place for an after-dinner drink or three. They've got the best-stocked bar in

Malá Strana and, while you probably wouldn't choose the orange and blue color scheme
for your own living room, it works well with the centerpiece wooden bar, plank floors,
schoolhouse furnishings and sconce lighting. Most of the action is in the front room,
where thirty customers is a full house.

garden bar. Med food is eaten in the Gothic brick-lined cellar below (to the tune of a

Prage Accomodations: This restaurant won an interior design a few years back and the

PragueExperience: For the best steak in town, look no further than Prague's El Gaucho
Steak House Restaurant, set right in the centre of Wenceslas Square.
El Gaucho has a mouth watering assortment of beef, including rib eye, top sirloin,
tenderloin, fillet, T-bone steak and the house speciality, the huge El Gaucho. Steaks are
expertly prepared on a quot;Parillaquot; - an authentic Argentinean grill - in the famous quot;Asadoquot;
style.
If steak is not your thing, there's plenty of other dishes to choose from, including
chicken, grilled fish and fresh salads.
Many of the dishes are typically Argentinean, prepared with authentic spices. The meat is
also cut in a different way to European steaks, which makes the taste of the food
noticeably different to other restaurants. Highly enjoyable.
El Gaucho is a friendly, relaxed restaurant and will appeal to everyone. Staff wear
traditional quot;Gauchoquot; costumes and soft South American music pervades the restaurant.
This is still Prague, but only just.
There is live Argentinean music every evening from 8pm. Buen Appetito!

Palffy Palace is impressive, but not imposing. Tables are wonderfully dressed with
candelabras, fresh cut flowers, and fine bohemian crystal. Large bowls of fruit and plant-
filled vases decorate the room, while pictures of numerous composers adorn the walls
(the palace also functions as a music conservatoire).
In the summer months, the restaurant extends onto a large terrace, providing a fine
outdoor setting for either lunch or dinner.

Avant-Guide: More than just a stinky bar with crimson walls, Chateau is an bona fide
institution sporting a good sound-system and some of the best lighting in Prague. Tripled
in size with the opening of its cellar dance space, the bar is experiencing something of a
renaissance. Everyone, it seems, floats through here at some point during the week,
making this one of the best late-night scenes in town. It's a colorful fishbowl, containing
every skin color and every length of hair -- the unifying feature is a desire to get liquored
up and lucky. Skunk smokers roll up early to meet with their quot;travel agents.quot; Later it's
workers from other bars and horny locals dropping lines on random tourists who
regularly swim by. Beer is the drink of choice, though the bartenders are just capable
enough to mix simple cocktails too. Chateau is best after midnight or 1am.

Frommers: Hidden on a small Old Town back street, this loud and lively New Orleans-
esque ground-floor place has twin bars, plank floors, and a good sound system playing
contemporary rock. It sells four types of beer on tap and features regular drink specials.
It's busy and fun -- if you avoid the headache-inducing concoctions from the frozen drink
machine. Open Monday to Thursday noon to 3am; Friday noon to 4pm; Saturday 4pm to
4am; Sunday 4pm to 2am.

Tanzbein schwingten. Die nette Vortänzerin auf der Kiste in der Mitte der Tanzfläche hilft
dabei aber sehr.

Avant-Guide: Occupying the top two floors of a landmark building on Wenceslas Square,
Duplex is an upscale dining and dancing space that unfortunately never found the
upscale crowd it was designed for. That said, hitting the right random night can be abfab
so it's definitely worth a look. Most nights you'll find a mix of foreign tourists and out-of-
town Czechs, many of whom were wooed in by the hawkers downstairs. If the views
inside are disappointing, you can always step onto the terrace and be wowed by the
lights for Prague.

dissidence has made this place special for over a decade, and it continues to be one of
