3. What is a Screencast?
A screencast is a digital recording of computer
screen output often containing audio narration–
sometimes called a video screen capture.
4. Online and Blended Learning
Blended learning is learning that combines face-
to-face classroom methods with computer-
mediated activities.
There is no real consensus on a definition of
blended learning.
The terms "blended," "hybrid," and
"mixed-mode" are often used interchangeably
in current research literature
5. The Flipped Classroom
The flipped classroom is a model of teaching in
which a student's homework consists of the
traditional lecture viewed outside of class as a
vodcast or screencast.
Class time is spent on inquiry-based learning
which would include what traditionally is viewed as
a student's homework.
6. Uses for Screencasting
How to... in Microsoft Word
Windows Snipping Tool Example
How to fill out an application
How to locate and navigate a school website
7. Uses for Screencasting
Flip your instruction by pre-introducing content

Other software tutorials
Slideshows or other student projects
8. Why?
• A means to increase interaction and personalized contact time
between students and teachers
• An environment where students take responsibility for their own
learning
• A classroom where students who are absent due to illness or
extra-curricular activities such as athletics or field-trips, don't get
left behind
• A lesson where content is permanently archived for review or
remediation
• A class where all students are engaged in their learning
• A place where all students can get a personalized education
9. There are a couple of free, web-based applications
that can be used to create a screencast.
Screencast-o-Matic allows the use of a webcam. It
also allows extended recording time up to 15
minutes.
10. Script
Tutorial or website tour
I recommend either an outline or script.
Remember that the pause button is your friend.
11. Navigate to the Screencast-o-Matic site
Although you do not need to download any
software, you do need Java installed and enabled
on your computer (not iPad® friendly)
Have websites and documents ready to display
