American Chemical Society
Project SEED
Over 40 years ago the American Chemical Society established a program of chemical
research for high school students who come from families who are economically
challenged. The program has been functioning at the University of Notre Dame for the
last three years and is expanding this year to include 10 students from area high schools.
We are currently soliciting participants for the coming summer – 2013. Each student will
work for 8 weeks on a project mentored by a researcher at the University of Notre Dame
or the IU School of Medicine – South Bend. The summer stipend is $2500.
Student Qualifications
• Come from a family whose annual income is less than two times the federal
poverty level. (A copy of the family income tax return will be required for participation.)
• One year of high school chemistry with good grades.
• A chemistry teacher’s recommendation
• A willingness to be on the job and work diligently each day.
