WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol and refers to the technical standard for accessing information wirelessly such as through mobile email, news, and more. It was originally created to simplify existing webpages for display on micro-browsers of early handheld devices with low memory and bandwidth constraints. WAP works with many wireless networks and can be used on handheld and portable devices to access emails, news, music and more through a completely wireless connection. While WAP only supports simplified .wml formatted pages, 3G networks provide faster connectivity and larger bandwidth that allows full web pages to load on mobile browsers.
