Sting is an English musician and activist whose real name is Gordon Matthew Sumner. He formed the band The Police in the 1970s which achieved great commercial success and won multiple Grammys. Sting began engaging in political and social activism in the 1980s by participating in benefit concerts for Amnesty International and Band Aid. He continues his activism through the Rainforest Foundation, which he founded in 1989 to protect rainforests and indigenous people and has helped conserve over 100,000 square kilometers of Amazon rainforest.
