Thomas learned about using Apple technology like Macs, which are commonly used in the magazine publishing industry. He used programs like Adobe Photoshop to edit images and Adobe InDesign to layout his magazine. His research also showed that magazines now rely heavily on digital platforms like websites and social media to provide timely news and promote themselves, as print can no longer offer instant updates.

2. Apple Macs are used commonly in the magazine
publishing industry and I have used them this
year to create my magazine and portfolio of
work. They are different systems to PCs and are
used by many in the media industry.
3. Specific programmes I have used during this
course include Adobe Photoshop and Adobe
InDesign. I have used Photoshop to crop, edit
and filter images to use in my magazine and
used InDesign to create the magazine itself.
4. In the research tasks I conducted, I discovered that
many magazines are reliant on the internet. For
example, NME is now no longer simply just a
magazine but a global brand which reaches its
audience via its website, television channel and radio
station. This may be because magazines cannot give
readers the latest news they need but the internet can
do this instantly.
5. Many magazines have pages on social networking
sites like Facebook and Twitter. Both these
websites are used everyday by millions of
people so they are a good way for magazines to
promote themselves and break the latest news.
