5 Ways to Generate Income From a Website
1. 5 Ways to Generate Income
From a Website
Most websites and website owners like to make money. Sure, some
sites exist as a hobby but even that can turn an income as a lot of
prolific YouTube video posters are finding. So what are the main
ways to generate income from a website once you've got more than
a handful of traffic to it?

2. 1. Pay per Click adverts
Google encourage websites to put in a block of code that allows
them to display Google AdSense adverts related to their website
content.
It's been available for a number of years and, once you've applied
and been approved, so long as you keep within Google's terms and
conditions, you'll get paid every time someone clicks on an advert
you've displayed.
There are other pay per click networks that you can use if you
prefer but most of them offer a similar revenue share to Google's.

3. 2. Product adverts
These are similar to pay per click adverts but instead of displaying
someone else's advert that they've placed on Google or elsewhere,
you display your own links to products.
The most common option here is to put up links to a shopping site
such as Amazon. You can find products for almost any niche in
existence and put up adverts for those products.

4. Amazon and other similar sites will offer you a range of options
from simple text links through to images of the product or even
best sellers related to your niche.
These links only pay out when someone actually buys the product
but often pay out a higher amount than you'd get per click on
regular adverts.
If they're appropriate to your website, you can also link to other
networks such as Commission Junction or Clickbank or private
affiliate networks which often offer a higher percentage commission
than Amazon, sometimes up to tens or even hundreds of dollars per
sale made.

5. 3. Sell your own products
Potentially this offers the highest margin of the options detailed so
far in this article.
You're in control of most if not all factors involved and that means
you should be getting a higher margin as you're cutting out the
middleman.
Or you might decide to take the middle ground and sell products
that you've bought in wholesale quantities - a lot of eBay and
Amazon sellers do this and so long as you get the purchase and
sales prices right (not always an easy task) then you can make
good money.

6. 4. Sell advertising space
Usually this doesn't make economic sense until you have a lot of
traffic to your website because of the administration time involved
and the extra effort potential advertisers have to go through to find
you.
But it could be worth putting up a page on your site offering
advertising opportunities as some of your regular visitors may
decide it's a good fit for them.
Another twist on this is to sell links or even complete posts on your
blog. You need to be careful about doing either of these to make
sure that you don't fall foul of any of Google's rules which could
have a negative effect on your site but so long as it's done well, this
can work as a revenue stream.

7. 5. Join a pay per review site
This is different from selling advertising space.
There are a number of networks out their that will pay you to write
a sponsored post or that will link you with people who will send you
a free sample of their product in return for a review on your
website.
