1. Poetry Synopsis I. Research Process 1. Find a poem that interests you and is on your reading level. You can find a poem out of a book or online. Here are some websites that will have lots of examples: poets.org poemsforfree.com famouspoetsandpoems.com 2. Poem needs to be at least 20 lines in length. It needs to have examples of figurative language within the poem. 3. Poem needs my approval. 4. Make 2 copies of your approved poem. One you will keep for your poetry book, and the other will be to turn into me with your synopsis. II. Format of Synopsis 1. Synopsis should consist of 3 paragraphs total. Front page of paper only! Don’t forget that you need a good topic sentence, attention grabber, supporting details, imagery, transitions, and a takeaway ending. 2. 1st paragraph should tell me the title and poet of your poem. The paragraph should tell me why you chose this particular poem. What is your connection to this poem or poet? How can you relate to this poem or poet? 3. 2nd paragraph should consist of the main idea and theme of the poem. What is the poet trying to say to the reader? What is happening in the poem? Create an image in my mind. 4. 3rd paragraph should give me examples of at least 2 sensory language skills that you found in your poem. Examples are: simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, alliteration, and rhyme scheme. Use examples from the poem. 5. Make sure your synopsis goes through the writing process. You will need to turn in your copy of the poem, prewriting, rough draft, revisions, proofreading, and final copy. III. Grading Procedure 1.
