JenBackground information:Developing online degree and certificate programs – need to provide similar support services to students who may never step foot on campusStarting with writing tutoring as we recognized writing is a central area for any online course experienceDecision – outsource or develop our own tutoring portalWe decided to develop our own WHY? Financial Issues – limited resourcesFlexibility of Process – able to scale program slowly with careful oversight using own tutors and having a faculty coordinator Writing Center Concerns – desire to have say in tutor training; desire to preserve peer tutoring experienceRetention concerns – desire to create student connection to UMass Dartmouth as place of support for academic issues
