• The Dutch East India Company wanted Malaysia so that they could control more
trading routes and so that they to could expand and gain power in Southeast Asia.
• Cornelis Matelief de Jonge led many attacks on the Portuguese occupying
Malaysia and finally took control in 1641.

way to resolve issues of land occupation and usage
between the two countries.
• The treaty gave Britain control of the North Malaysia and
Dutch control of the South Malaysia.
