19. Lets add some adjectives to a couple of sentences.

20. The man was walking his dog.

21. What are the nouns we want to modify ?

22. dog man &

23. Now, let’s modify, or slightly change, man and dog.

24. Lets ask some questions

25. What kind of man? tall short young old

26. The tall, young man

27. What kind of dog? Large Small Black White

28. The large, black, dog

29. Now we have a sentence that draws us a better picture.

30. The tall, young, man was walking the large, black, dog.

31. That’s what adjectives do!

32. Lets try another one…

33. The bird had food.

34. The nouns we want to modify are… bird & food

35. What kind of bird? robin pigeon crow Blue Jay

36. The robin had food.

37. Which robin? fat baby hungry noisy

38. The hungry baby robin had food.

39. What kind of food? Worms Bugs Beetles Bread crumbs

40. The hungry, baby robin had bread crumbs.

41. How many bread crumbs? some several a few

42. Here is our new sentence, sharpened and polished with modifiers

43. The hungry, baby robin had a few bread crumbs.

44. Now that you’ve seen what adjectives can do… it’s your turn!

45. On your paper, rewrite the sentence you will see on the final slide. Add at least 3 adjectives to modify the nouns.

46. Then we’ll go around the room, and you can share your sentences!

47. Be prepared to share with the class twoquestions you answered with the adjectives you added!

48. Here’s your sentence: The boy is throwing the ball.
