This presentation describes a process for planning both short term and long term goals by envisioning the ideal solution, then working backward to the current situation. By going through this process from the vision backward, you identify what is necessary to achieve the goal and not settle for something less than ideal.

3. Current View to Better View To create the IDEAL vision requires being able to accurately assess the current situation. Current View of the Situation – CVS Better View of the Situation – BVS

4. Current View To see the Current View, requires the ability to accurately discern. Example: “City ‘X’ has an average of 2 miles of walking trails per park.” The more accurate CVS may be that there are only two of six city parks with walking trails.

5. Better View CVS: Two of six city parks have walking trails. BVS: Build walking trails in the remaining four parks.

7. Build trails in all city parks

8. Create a network of trails that connect all city parks

9. Incorporate bicycle lanes on the trails

10. Include nature observations along trails

11. Construct exercise stations along all trails

12. Situate trails near schools to facilitate outdoor learning

14. To develop the plan, step backward from the IDEAL.
