Examples of how gamification could help increase the community's understanding of the services available from local libraries, increase use of the branches, and more closely integrate with the continual learning of its patrons
2. Montgomery County Public Libraries offers
free and equal access to services and
resources that connect the people of
Montgomery County to ideas and
information which sustain and enrich their
lives.
3. The library system’s excellent
resources are not known by
the community, and millennial
are less frequent users

Community Programs
Three following examples of
how gamification could help!
4. To familiarize patrons with the library’s vast resources, create an onboarding
mission to explore all available resources
Curated set of resources (fiction, non-fiction, research books, newspaper
& magazine articles, video, etc.) around a set of broad topics that the
patron will locate and find with the assistance of a librarian
Patrons will use a printed quest sheet to check off the resources they
find, or use a digital app integrated with the library offerings
KEY BENEFIT: patrons will be familiar with all of the resources available,
explore their local branch, and interact with a librarian
5. To make it easier for patrons to connect with the libary, and continue
learning on their own, monthly curated Immersive Missions will be released
Each month, a topic/theme will be selected and a list of accompanying
materials / events on the topic will be curated
Patrons will download the mission on computer or phone app and track
their progress of reading / watching / attending the materials in the
mission
KEY BENEFIT: Patrons will learn about new topics, increase the use of
materials, connect with the community, and view the library as a partner in
their continued self-enrichment
6. Increase the amount of people visiting branches by rewarding patrons with
a raffle ticket for each visit to the library
Quarterly, each branch will raffle off a book* with the winner selected
from that branch’s raffle pool
Patrons will “check-in” by scanning their library card upon entry, the
more frequently they visit, the more raffle tickets they will receive
KEY BENEFIT: Patrons will be incentivized to come into the library more
often, and when there, to “check in” to help with calculating the true
number of patrons using the facilities
*Alternate incentives could be 3 hour sessions in a
collaboration or special room, or other premium
service offered by the branch
