3. PROLOGUE
W
hen my interest in the music played on the radio
changed from“being listened” to “being sung” I can
say my resources to do so were very limited. They
consisted of a one way portable record player in the
livingroom of my home, some old 45 RPM records,
some spiral notebook and a pencil with an eraser on top. On the other
hand, my knowledge of the English language was very incipient, making
my task something a lot more difficult. Nevertheless, at the age of seven,
there seems to be no obstacles in our way, so I started to sing some of the
songs that my heroes (The Beatles) sang, no matter I had to make up the
words I didn’t understand from the lyrics. Today, more than forty years
away from that time, I still sing, my heroes are now a lot more artists, I
perform some of their hits on my piano or with my guitar and I have
composed some of my own songs in English. This anecdote about how I
started in music has inspired me to publish this SONGBOOK. Many
people at my presentations have asked me for the lyrics of some of the
songs I sing. This is my way of fulfilling their request and also to offer
those who like this kind of music, a resource that hopefully will
encourage them to sing along.
