Ethics are at the core of any professional practice. Healthcare interpreting requires interpreters to respond to a wide array of difficult situations in an ethical manner. Trainers of Healthcare Interpreters must provide their students with both an understanding of interpreter ethics and practice in applying them. During this 90-minute webinar for interpreter trainers, veteran trainer Cindy Roat shared three different frameworks for introducing and practicing interpreter ethics; frameworks that can be implemented in an hour, a day or a semester. Specific problems in teaching ethical decision-making were discussed. http://www.ncihc.org/trainerswebinars

In this workshop, we discuss the use of demand control schema (DCS) as a framework for making ethical decisions in interpreting and as a strategy for professional development. Within healthcare, there are a wide variety of specializations. While it is not realistic to expect that interpreters be intimately familiar with all of these settings, they are often faced with the challenge of navigating the demands in unfamiliar medical environments. This workshop examines strategies used by interpreters to facilitate effective communication in one of these specialized settings – genetic counseling. Traditionally, interpreter training programs focus on the technical aspects of the job, along with an emphasis on rule-based approaches to ethical decision making. However, ethical decisions require thoughtful consideration and reflection of the entire setting, including linguistic skills, ongoing analysis of the subject matter, interaction among discourse participants, cultural knowledge, and the resilience to make moment-by-moment decisions. This workshop exemplifies that interpreters who are well versed in DCS are better equipped to analyze the interpreting situation than those without DCS training. A structure will be provided for discussing the work using non-judgmental, evaluative, concrete language, which can be used for guiding interpreters to recognize the impact they have on the interpreting environment Interpreter trainers will gain an appreciation for their responsibility to impart the concept of interpreting as a practice profession that requires professional development, including mentoring and performance feedback, throughout the professional interpreter’s career. Learning Objectives: To recognize the components of interpreting that categorize it as a practice profession. To understand the use and benefits of DCS for effective interpreting practice, and ethical decision-making in content-specific medical specializations, such as genetic counseling. To learn about the importance of supervision in practice professions and how to utilize the DCS framework for effective supervisory conversations.

The notion of sequence organization is based on the premise that the central consideration for the organization of talk is that talk is a form of social action: that is, turns at talk are places in which the participants in a conversation perform actions through talk. Turns at talk cluster together in order for speakers to develop a course of action. This view maintains that the action being performed is a more important resource for understanding how conversation is organized. CA views the positioning of an utterance in the ongoing conversation as fundamental to the understanding of its meaning and to the analysis of its significance as a social action. We notice that many turns at talk occur as pairs. A greeting is conventionally followed by another greeting, a farewell by a farewell, a question by an answer. Schegloff and Sacks (1973) called these sorts of paired utterances adjacency pairs and these adjacency pairs are the basic unit on which sequences in conversation are built. Sequence expansion involves structures largely built through adjacency pairs. Pre - , insert and post - expansion sequences can be seen to be in the service of the base sequence in some key way, though these ways are quite diverse. Generic functions for pre- sequences include establishing that the conditions for proceeding to the base sequence are in place, indicating that the base sequence will involve a matter that is delicate in some way or highlighting the significance of something to come in the base first- p air part. Insert sequences are typically concerned with repairing some aspect of a first - pair part or can be concerned with contingencies on which a second - pair part might depend. Post sequences are concerned with repairing some aspect of a second- p air part, pursuing additional information or proposing sequence closure. As is clear from the discussion thus far, sequence expansion addresses a wide variety of interactional goals. It is for this reason that understanding how turns are organized into sequences, as well as how and when they are expanded, provides us with substantial analytic leverage on what it is that the participants are doing in and through interaction.

Repair, Retrofitting and Rehabilitation of Heritage buildings and historical structures. As Heritage buildings serves the integrity in and around the world, there is a great need to repair and restore them. STRUCTURAL CRACKS: 1. Epoxy injection 2. Polyurethane injection 3. Stitching of cracks Problem Identification Selection of suitable solution 9. EPOXY INJECTION 60002C Epoxy Injection Pump Epoxy grout consists of epoxy resin, epoxy hardener and sand/aggregates. Epoxy grout is non-porous and wouldn’t absorb any contaminant or stains. 10. STRUCTURAL CRACKS: 1. Epoxy injection 3. Stitching of cracks Problem Identification Selection of suitable solution 2. Polyurethane Injection 11. POLYURETHANE INJECTION Installed Injection Packer Polyurethane Crack Injection Polyurethane injection involves a high pressure (typically 1500-3200 psi) injection of activated polyurethane through injection packers hammered into drilled holes. These fast-setting foams are effective alternatives for applications involving only crack sealing (waterproofing) and not structural repair. 12. STRUCTURAL CRACKS: 1. Epoxy injection 2. Polyurethane Injection Problem Identification Selection of suitable solution 3. Stitching of cracks 13. STITCHING OF CRACKS 14. ROOF LEAKAGES 1. Replacement of damaged roof with new clay roof tile and rearrangement of sealant. 2. Replacement of damaged roof portion by Asbestos roof and refill of sealant 3. Lead flashing Problem Identification Selection of suitable solution 15. Peeling of walls and ceiling The most suited and effective solution for peeling of walls or plaster is Mughal Plastering i.e. Plastering with lime mortar. Its lifetime is 10 years. Mold stains The effective solution is applying soap water under high pressure using pressure nozzle, controller and tube. Vegetation growth The materials used to remove vegetation growth are Glyphosate, ammonia solution and lime mortar. Interpreters and Emotional Intelligence How do we use it and why does it matter? Why perfectly good interpreters succumb when faced with stressful situations? Why others thrive under pressure and need the adrenaline to perform better? Why some interpreters are more comfortable with our ‘invisible’ role? Why others are keen to interact and make their presence? How do interpreters cope with stress, emotional speakers, uncooperative colleagues, the undue pressure from clients and the financial instability that comes with a freelance status, and what happens if they don’t?

Graphs of participant data not presented in this article are available upon request from Daniel F. Brossart. In a thoughtful commentary, Aeschleman (1991) observed a decreasing interest in single-case research (SCR) designs in the rehabilitation psychology literature: Between 1985 and 1989, Aeschleman found only 6 out of 402 empirical papers published in Rehabilitation Psychology, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin used a single-subject design (<1.5% of the total; Aeschleman, 1991, p. 43). A brief examination of the past 15 years of Rehabilitation Psychology reveals one article that offered an innovative way to analyze single-case data (Callahan & Barisa, 2005) and another that was a true single-case study (Pijnenborg, Withaar, Evans, van den Bosch, & Brouwer, 2007). We disagree with Aeschleman's bleak conclusion that SCR designs “… have not made a methodological impact on research in reh.

Discussion Response Chelsea We want to ensure we are able to gain insight and depth to the approach being studied. It is important to see how each person is their own being and their own reality of the way they view things. A descriptive research design would be best fit to answer the additional questions that instructors are wanting to find. Utilizing a more in-depth participant approach/interaction approach, such as, direct observation. We can also look into more of a historical research design which can examine evens the participant has experienced for present or future effects tot the study. We can formulate research questions, journals, audio/videotape or data collecting. There are ethical issues that can arise in the study. It is important the psychologist be well trained to understand the multiple factors that can arise when conducting a study and having questions answered. As stated in Ponterotto (2013) article “It may be possible to do good quantitative research without knowing much about epistemology of the philosophy of (social) science, but good qualitative research requires an informed awareness of philosophical perspectives” (Ponterotto, J. G., 2013) which is a characteristic of ontology. We also have a characteristic of epistemology, which contributes to the relationship between the participant and the researcher, as well as, rhetorical structure, which is the language they use to explain the research findings to the participant. As in any study, we want to ensure the participants privacy is respected and kept confidential. Any form of recording or data collecting will require the participants consent via verbal and in writing. Much of the quantitative approach and paradigm differ due to it being more data and statistical collecting. The methods require a more structured approach than what a qualitative approach requires. In our qualitative approach, we are wanting to know more about the participant and how we can develop our hypothesis and collect our data, with the right approach. Discussion Response 2 Randolph Varying paradigmatic approaches to psychology research are only just recently demonstrating elevated measures of refinement. There is some contention among practitioners regarding mixed-method research models, because they are known for, “[…] combining qualitative and quantitative paradigms” (Frost, 2011, p. 9). Sociologist Dr. Ann Oakley (1944 - ) of London University’s Institute of Education terms the current debate, “paradigm wars,” (Oakley, 1999, p. 247), even calling the discourse a, “battle” (p. 248). As more and more technological and psychometric advances emerge, past discursive discourse has effectively morphed into healthy debate as to the myriad research modalities available in the exploration of analytical latencies of human behavior. A systematic mixed-method (qualitative and quantitative) strategy may be the appropriate course in the Murphy (2014) Scenario, as examiners are seeking objective ( ...

A FLEXIBLE THERAPY MANUAL FOR WORKING WITH INTERNAL CONFLICTS Guillem Feixas, Universitat de Barcelona Internal conflicts have been a common focus for psychotherapies of a variety of orientations. All of them share the idea that internal conflicts (or personal dilemmas) are at the heart of human functioning. However, their almost opaque nature makes it difficult to identify and gauge. The notion of internal conflict can be formulated within the context of a broader psychological theory capable of contributing in more specific terms, as well as instruments for measuring it. Based on Personal Construct Theory, a constructivist theory that regards the significance attributed to events as being the basis of human functioning, research has been conducted on several clinical problems. Results suggests that internal conflicts can become a target for interventions promoting change. These personal dilemmas are identified in people who associate self-identity characteristics in which change is desirable (e.g., “timid”) to other, more central core identity constructs (e.g., “modest”). By implication, achieving change (e.g., becoming “social”) is linked in the subject’s cognitive system to characteristics which are unacceptable for the person’s sense of identity (e.g., “arrogant”). This workshop is designed to: (1) provide the clinician methods to identify internal conflicts, (2) use them for case formulation, and (3) offer the clinician specific guidelines for a dilemma-focused intervention. The presenter will describe and illustrate a protocol for working with internal conflicts, a mechanism that may be blockading change in a variety of clinical problems.

Explore how multimodal embeddings work with Milvus. We will see how you can explore a popular multimodal model - CLIP - on a popular dataset - CIFAR 10. You use CLIP to create the embeddings of the input data, Milvus to store the embeddings of the multimodal data (sometimes termed “multimodal embeddings”), and we will then explore the embeddings.

The microservices honeymoon is over. When starting a new project or revamping a legacy monolith, teams started looking for alternatives to microservices. The Modular Monolith, or 'Modulith', is an architecture that reaps the benefits of (vertical) functional decoupling without the high costs associated with separate deployments. This talk will delve into the advantages and challenges of this progressive architecture, beginning with exploring the concept of a 'module', its internal structure, public API, and inter-module communication patterns. Supported by spring-modulith, the talk provides practical guidance on addressing the main challenges of a Modultith Architecture: finding and guarding module boundaries, data decoupling, and integration module-testing. You should not miss this talk if you are a software architect or tech lead seeking practical, scalable solutions. In the thrilling conclusion to 2023, ransomware groups had a banner year, really outdoing themselves in the "make everyone's life miserable" department. LockBit 3.0 took gold in the hacking olympics, followed by the plucky upstarts Clop and ALPHV/BlackCat. Apparently, 48% of organizations were feeling left out and decided to get in on the cyber attack action. Business services won the "most likely to get digitally mugged" award, with education and retail nipping at their heels. Hackers expanded their repertoire beyond boring old encryption to the much more exciting world of extortion. The US, UK and Canada took top honors in the "countries most likely to pay up" category. Bitcoins were the currency of choice for discerning hackers, because who doesn't love untraceable money?
