UNITEDPAC CALLS ON THE PRIME MINISTER TO PUT AN END TO POLITICAL
VICTIMIZATION IN SOUFRIERE
CASTRIES, Saint Lucia – Thursday, November 21, 2013 – United PAC understands that political
victimization, discrimination against perceived non supporters of the Saint Lucia Labour Party and blatant
political persecution of selected residents of Soufriere is the order of the day. This unconstitutional behavior
which is alleged to be ably supported by agents of the State who are employees of the Soufriere Regional
Development Foundation is disturbing and goes against the Prime Minister’s own call for unity after the 2011
General Elections.
Further, the residents allege that the SRDF waited until visitor arrivals started before commencing repairs at the
Sulphur Springs on Monday 18th November, 2013. Vendors lament the current economic condition in the town
and the further loss of revenue as they have to temporarily close business to allow for the repairs to be
undertaken.
United PAC understands that employment positions are created at will and money generated by the SRDF does
not go towards the development of the Soufriere tourism product, but to pay unnecessary consultants and
personnel who do not have the required qualifications, experience or background for such positions.
United PAC reminds the Chief Executive Officer of the SRDF of his responsibility to provide a service to all
residents of Soufriere and not to a chosen few. We are also asking the CEO to provide an update on the
uncompleted works at Palmiste and Hummingbird Beach, - as well as to explain why rent is being paid for new
vacant offices for the Foundation which are owned by Walter Francois’ relatives.
United PAC is calling on Prime Minister, Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, who is an esteemed constitutional lawyer, and
is well aware of the importance of protection of rights, freedom of assembly and association duly reflected in
our Constitution Order of 1978 Chapter 1, section 11 (1) and (2) to call on the alleged abusers of the
constitution to cease and desist from causing, aiding or propagating discrimination of any kind with regards to
the residents of Soufriere.
