Teaching can be solitary, lonely if no one in your team shares your passions MFL is under attack – why are our results low, why is take up poor???? Leading a dept can be very lonely and is always demanding – how do you get support? Keep up to date? How do you keep your pecker up?
CPD is hard to get, not easy to choose but you have a right to training throughout your life. It should be tailor-made not difficult or superfluous. Private business gives employees a pot per year. How do we get what we need? Why do we not take up what is on offer? No one else in school is going to look after your needs.
Saw Dylan last year – did you see him last week?? Teacher Learning is CRUCIAL!! Because teachers make the crucial difference. NOT schools, Heads, backgrounds of pupils… You have a right and a need to keep learning What are you doing to feed yourself and your own passions for learning, and languages??
OK – it’s a bit American – Strategic learning network etc etc But look at Google to see what you can find and it is huge! What all do you already do to stay connected? What else could you do to support yourself? Some of you are young enough to go for promotion – how to continue to learn?
A lot began with ICT conference on IOW in 2008 – went with Marie France What an eye-opener Great bunch of people and all types and ages. Very challenging I don’t want to be left behind nor viewed as an oldie/slow or non techie It is our job to look out over the parapet. It is FUN!! How do you get started? What is there in PLN?? This is my own humble example!!
I’ll say some basic obvious things and add many more ideas – sorry if it is too fast or too slow – it may be new or obvious. These are some very obvious things I do. But one person’s old or obvious is someone else’s lightbulb. How many of you read TES forum – it is quite sharp! People don’t suffer fools gladly. MFL resources is kinder and strictly moderated.
