You are responsible for
your outsourcing success
   Getting the desired results from outsourcing depends largely
    on you

   Make sure that the vendor has the infrastructure required

   Put your requirements across to the vendor as clearly as
    possible

   The clearer the requirements, better are your chances of
    getting the desired results
Perform an internal assessment
of the project to be outsourced

   This enables you to convey your needs to your vendor

   Gives you an opportunity to identify the key objectives of
    outsourcing

   Identify technology and human resource to achieve these key
    objectives

   This exercise becomes your preliminary tool to identify
    potential vendors
Put it in writing

  Put the objectives in writing

  Make a comprehensive report

  This report becomes your guide to put requirements
   across to the vendor
Have internal brainstorming
sessions
  Hold brainstorming sessions with your key staff members

  Finalize even the minute nitty-gritty of the requirements

  Prepare a final draft of the expectations from the vendor

  Present the final set of requirements to the vendor
One-on-one with the vendor

  Your deputed team should have a one-on-one session with the
   prospective vendor

  This team should be able to articulately present all your
   requirements

  It is a good idea to visit the vendor's premises, if possible
Vendor's infrastructure
  Be aware of the infrastructure available with the vendor

  Request a list of facilities, hardware and software available

  Match the list with your requirements

  This helps you to assess the vendor's capabilities
Make a team responsible for
effective transition
   Constitute a team responsible for transitioning of the business
    process

   This team should make sure that the vendor understands your
    requirements

   The team collaborates with the vendor to ensure a seamless
    transition
Run a pilot project

  Always run a pilot project with the vendor

  Allows you to check if your requirements are being met

  Allows you to fix any shortcomings before the final contract is
   signed
