6. Bhopal Gas Tragedy *On the night of 2 December 1984, over 35 tons of toxic gases leaked from a pesticide plant in Bhopal... In the next 2-3 days more than 7,000 people died and many more were seriously affected. Over the last 20 years at least 15,000 more people have died from illnesses related to gas exposure. *Today more than 100,000 people continue to suffer chronic and debilitating illnesses for which treatment is largely ineffective.
7. Godhra Riots *254 Hindus and 790 Muslims were killed in Gujarat in the Godhra riots of 2002 *223 people were reported missing, *2,548 sustained injuries, 919 were rendered widows and 606 children were orphaned during the riots.
8. ‘ 84 Riots *3000 Sikhs were killed in retaliatory attacks *The mobs swarmed into Sikh neighborhoods, arbitrarily killing any Sikh men they could find *Their shops and houses were ransacked and burned. *In other incidents, armed mobs stopped buses and trains, in and around Delhi, pulling out Sikh passengers to be lynched or doused with kerosene and burnt.
