2. Bienvenue/Welcome to:6th Grade French! Learning a second language and culture is a life-long advantage which will benefit the children both academically and cognitively 2

3. About me… Background I grew up in Paris, France and moved to the US in 1992. I attended Berkeley College and Montclair State University. Experience I taught French in an innovative French/English bilingual school in Bergen County for over two years. 3

4. Communication and Culture In this class, we will learn French and study the cultures of francophone countries, their similarities and their differences. This will include personal and social topics. My goal is to have children engage in meaningful conversation and be able to read and write simple words and phrases in French by the end of the year. We will do comparative cultural studies that will help students participate in home and global communities (such as internet and movies). 4

5. Cultural Personal Identity Experiences that occur within one’s family, one’s community and the other culture (such as self, friends, family, pets, physical/personality descriptions, school, likes/dislikes, and pastimes). 5

6. Cultural Cultural Authentic Activities Getting familiar with different cultural products and practices (such as authentic celebrations, songs & dances). 6

7. Cultural Healthy Eating Habit and Fitness Practices Variation between different cultures (such as foods, shopping, eating in/out and wellness practices). 7

8. Field Trip Since we are going to study the French painters during the last quarter of the year, a field trip will be organized to the Museum of Modern Art in New York along with the Art Teacher. All detailswillbediscussedprior to taking the trip… chaperoneswillbewelcome to join us. 8

9. Homework Students will bring homework on a regular basis on topics that have been previously studied in class. Over the year children will be asked to work on special projects that will require access to internet/library. These assignments will enhance their creative and technological experiences. Homework assignments will be graded. 9
