The document outlines turn-in dates for a letter writing project. Students must turn in a completed table of contents by December 8th, then submit letters in batches on subsequent Tuesdays, with the final project due January 14th. Drafts of letters and information paragraphs are due on turn-in dates. Students should make additional copies for themselves as papers will not be returned. A note informs parents of an Africa-themed ABC book project for social studies due December 17th. Students risk losing points for plagiarism and may work in pairs if they find a responsible partner.
1. Turn In Dates for the Project: Each week, I am making a certain number of letters due. That way it will
help the students keep on track and they will not fall behind. My after school day is Tuesday and I would be
glad to have students stay after school so that I can help them work on their projects.
December 1st (TODAY)- Project is assigned
December 8th- Completed Table of Contents Due
December 15th- First six letters are due (A-F)
December 22nd- Next six letters are due (G-L)
January 7th- Next six letters are due (M-R)
January 14th- FINAL PROJECT IS DUE!!!
These do not have to be the final copy, all I am looking for on these turn in days is the letter and the paragraph of
information. Please make sure that the paper that you turn in to me that day you is NOT your only copy. I will be
holding on to the papers and you will not be getting them back.
Parent Note
December 1, 2013
Dear Parents and Guardians of the Marlins Cluster,
I am just writing you this short note today to inform you that I have assigned a project in Social Studies class
and that the due date will be December 17th. I have sent home a sheet explaining the entire assignment as well as
a rubric as to exactly how the assignment will be graded. The project will be to create an A,B,C Book of Africa in
which the students need to pick one word for each lettered page that involves the continent of Africa in some way.
For examples, please consult the directions that I have sent home.
I have spoken to the students quite a bit about the topic of plagiarism, which is the direct copying of information
from a book or Internet source. This type of behavior is unacceptable and is explicitly discussed in the handbook
that was given to the students at the beginning of the year. On this project, if a student is caught using words
that are not their own, they will lose 35 points off of the project.
This can either be a solo project or I am allowing the children to pick one other person in the cluster to work
with, the choice is theirs. I urge students to be careful in their choice of partner, they should choose a partner
that will do the same amount of work that they will. Thank you very much for your time, if you could please
sign this slip of paper so that I know that you have seen it, it would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
V. Raponi
