Lebanon, March 9, 2014. Roughly a
year and a half prior, doctors
discovered a tumor in zacharia's
kidney. He had two surgeries and
eight chemo sessions. They
commuted to Damascus for
chemotherapy until the road
became too dangerous, and they
had to stop treatment. By the time
they reached Lebanon and tried to
resume chemotherapy, his health
deteriorated dramatically. There
are roughly one million Syrian
refugees in Lebanon, comprising
almost 20% of Lebanon's current
population. With no formal refugee
camps in the country, Syrian
refugees live in makeshift
accommodations across Lebanon,
straining Lebanon's infrastructure
and resources. Many Syrians have
struggled to access and afford
health care, especially when trying
to treat terminal and chronic illness.
