5. The Persona
The Persona is a complicated system of
relations between the individual
consciousness and society, fittingly
enough a kind of mask, designed on the
one hand to make a definite impression
upon others, and, on the other, to conceal
the true nature of the individual.
(C. G. Jung, Collected Works, 7: 305)
7. The Shadow
There is no light without shadow and no
psychic wholeness without imperfection.
To round itself out, life calls not for
perfection but for completeness; and for
this the “thorn in the flesh” is needed, the
suffering of defects without which there is
no progress and no ascent.
(C. G. Jung, Collected Works 7: 314)

9. Individuation
Individuation means becoming a single,
homogenous being, and, in so far as
“individuality” embraces our innermost,
last, and incomparable uniqueness, it also
implies becoming ones own self. We could
therefore translate individuation as
“coming to selfhood” or “self realization”.
(C. G. Jung, Collected Works, 7: 266)
12. Self Awareness
Sin and virtue, shadow and persona, red
and blue – they all represent two sides of
the same coin. What lies behind each pair
of opposites is a fundamental energy or
quality of relating. It is the way you move
into contact with another person or an
object, something outside of yourself.
Whatever attitude you hold, it is ultimately
governed by your relationship to yourself.
