Iran, before 1921, was called Persia. It
wasled by Shahs in the Qajar Dynasty.
Then, in 1921, Reza Khan (a military officer)
led a rebellion against the Shah and won.
He declared himself Shah of Persia.
Eventually, the
students took over the
Embassy and captured
52 U.S. hostages.
U.S. intelligence stated
that Iran had stopped
trying to develop nuclear
weapons in 2003 but was
still developing uranium
(which means it could
rapidly resume its
nuclear program at any
time).
lesbian and gay
people and members
of religious
minorities including
