• Functional
• Built for reliability (nine nines)
• Some nice adjectives include:
• concurrent, distributed, “soft real-time”
• fault tolerant
• scalable (cloud-scale, web-scale)
• green (sort of)

• It looks a lot like Prolog
• Immutability
• No “loops” (use tail recursion, or map funs)
• Strings are weird-ish
