2. Operating Pressure
•Pressure at which your equipment is going to
operate during the life of the equipment
•This is the reference pressure to prepare
DATA Sheet of the equipment
3. Design Pressure
• Operating pressure + any normal excess pressure
that can occur during the equipment's operation
• Usually in the range of 10% to as high as 25%
depends of safety consideration of designer
4. MAWP (Maximum Allowable Working Pressure)
• Considering various fabrication parameters and design
code requirement equipment manufacturer calculate
thickness of the plate to manufactured equipment
• If he come with some odd thickness plate which is not
commercially available he will go for commercially
available higher thickness plate
• Back calculate pressure with selected plat thickness that
equipment can withstand that is MAWP
5. Hydro test Pressure
• This pressure is calculated based on the equation
given in equipment design and manufacturing code
• 130% of design pressure if design code is ASME
Section VIII Div-1
• If you go for pneumatic test in place of hydro test,
the test pressure is 110% of design pressure
6. Different Types of Pressure for Equipment
Hydro test Pressure 130% of Design Pressure
(ASME Section VIII)
MAWP (Maximum Allowable
Working Pressure)
Minimum or more
than100% of Design
Pressure
Design Pressure 100
Operating Pressure 90% of Design Pressure
