In the last two decades, African governments and the globule health community have formulated policies, designed programmes and allocated funding for the delivery of health services, health system strengthening and monitoring of MDG indicators based on the perceptions of the characteristics of a good health system. The integrated approach is required for successful intervention and sustainable impact on health system.

Problem
• Lifetime risk of maternal death : 1 in 67
• Life expectancy at birth (years) 2011 :59
• Neonatal mortality rate 1 : 52
• Belief - Colostrum (milk secreted in the
first two to three days after childbirth) is
unhealthy and should not be given to the
baby
• Fever is most common among children
age 6 - 11 months
• 44 % of Ethiopian children are
chronically malnourished
• Treatment is sought more commonly for
children of mother with secondary
education (45%) and for children from
wealthiest household (40%)
