Maniac Magee Part 2 continues the story of the young orphan Maniac Magee. In chapters 9-16, Maniac befriends a snapping turtle and cobra. He also meets Mars Bar, a candy, who becomes an important figure. Maniac eventually finds a new home with the Beale family, who take him in. He helps the Beale family by doing chores around their house. The section explores themes of racial divides in the town and Maniac's fear of losing his identity without a home.
