Teachings from the Cross. A Sermon Series for Lent.
“Abandonment”
Matthew 27:45-46
Psalm 22:1
My God! My God, why have you left me all alone? Why are you so far
from saving me-- so far from my anguished groans?
That plea was spoken by Jesus on the Cross…
Matthew 27:45-46
From noon until three in the afternoon the whole earth was dark. At
about three Jesus cried out with a loud shout, "Eli, Eli, lama
sabachthani," which means, "My God, my God, why have you left me?"
Jesus was abandoned in the Garden by His disciples, and separated
from (abandoned by) His Father on the Cross. Christ experienced
abandonment so we would not have to!!
CHRIST IS ALWAYS WITH US!!
Genesis 1:27 - God created humanity in God's own image, in the divine
image God created them, male and female God created them.
2. Matthew 1:23 - … A virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son,
And they will call him, Emmanuel. (Emmanuel means "God with us.")
Revelation 1:8 - "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God,
"the one who is and was and is coming, the Almighty."
CHRIST IS ALWAYS WITH US!!
John 14:15-21
" If you love me, you will keep my commandments. I will ask the Father,
and he will send another Companion, who will be with you forever. This
Companion is the Spirit of Truth, whom the world can't receive because
it neither sees him nor recognizes him. You know him, because he lives
with you and will be with you. " I won't leave you as orphans. I will
come to you. Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me.
Because I live, you will live too. On that day you will know that I am in
my Father, you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my
commandments and keeps them loves me. Whoever loves me will be
loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them."
2 Corinthians 4:7-12, 16-18
But we have this treasure in clay pots so that the awesome power
belongs
to God and doesn't come from us. We are experiencing all kinds of
trouble, but we aren't crushed. We are confused, but we aren't
depressed. We are harassed, but we aren't abandoned. We are knocked
down, but we aren't knocked out. We always carry Jesus' death around
in our bodies so that Jesus' life can also be seen in our bodies. We who
are alive are always being handed over to death for Jesus' sake so that
Jesus' life can also be seen in our bodies that are dying. So death is at
work in us, but life is at work in you…
…So we aren't depressed. But even if our bodies are breaking down on
the outside, the person that we are on the inside is being renewed
every day. Our temporary minor problems are producing an eternal
stockpile of glory for us that is beyond all comparison. We don't focus
on the things that can be seen but on the things that can't be seen. The
things that can be seen don't last, but the things that can't be seen are
eternal.
CHRIST IS ALWAYS WITH US!!
