This document discusses Café Scientifique in Uganda, which are informal gatherings where people meet in cafes or other public places to discuss science topics. The goals are to make science more accessible to the public and change the setting of scientific discussions from universities to casual environments. Café Scientifique started in Uganda in 2007 and now has locations in several cities. Speakers are usually scientists who present for 20 minutes followed by discussion. Attendance averages between 10-30 people. Challenges include lack of resources and attracting more women. However, a grant was received to expand adult cafes and start junior cafes in schools to encourage science education.
