Presentation on tire safety. Read notes for ideas on how to fit your talk to these slides. -- I've created this presentation for my fellow drivers and my students to reduce time spent by me repairing tires that should have been done long ago and to increase the safety of the motoring public by reducing the risk of tire failure. Also included in my personal presentation is a viewing of the final minutes of mythbusters' truck myths that covers the subject of truck tire blowouts ,available on iTunes.

- High number of obviously bad tires missed either because the driver didn’t care, or the driver didn’t look
- Tread wear to the core completely across this tire
- Sidewall cuts and gouges are dot problems and can potentially cause a blowout
- Low tire pressure reduces traction and generates heat. Overheated tires cause blowouts especially when a tire is low. Compression causes container to heat. Decompression causes cooling. If not enough pressure in the tire, compression is the same, but decompression is lower. Causes hotter and less safe tire. At about 350 degrees to 450 degrress, the tire will have a catastrophic failure Implications are… Motoring public next to or behind the tire. (can use mythbusters truck myth tire video here) Loss of control of vehicle including possible rollover and loss of life, vehicle or freight.

- Dishonest drivers, or as I call them, snakes and insects. These drivers are willing to put themselves and their fellow drivers as well as the careers of both at risk simply because he’s “ got to roll man”
- Did you even look? Most of the tires photographed here were taken in broad daylight and the damage was to the outside tire. Even just walking past the tire you’d see the damage. You didn’t look, or you didn’t care
- Drivers who don’t know to look after….. 35 days with a trainer, 21 days with another trainer Two weeks of class And all the training to get the cdl. Do we really have people so incompetant that they can’s spot the tire damage shown here.
- This is probably more of what we’re having. Being an adult means thinking less about yourself and more about others. Your fellow drivers, the motoring public. Driving is only fun until you kill someone
- This is basic CDL 101. We should all know this.
- Even if this happens, pretrip at a safe location ASAP
