Success Rituals and Superstitions
1. Success Rituals and Superstitions

All successful people not only have their personal rules
of success but they also have a set of rituals that they
perform daily to ensure continued
success.B5BW4N9JZ8CX
These success rituals are not something they just
stumbled upon overnight. Most likely it took years of
trial and error to refine them.
As any successful person knows their investment of time
in personal development discovering these rituals reaps
huge personal rewards in the future.
That’s why you are here. To build a foundation of personal development
knowledge so you can create unlimited personal success.
So why not just develop some great habits and call it a day?
Habits and Success Rituals
For what we are discussing here today I want to make a clear distinction between
habits and success rituals so you can see how your rituals relate to superstitions
later.
Habits by my definition are something you develop over time to fulfill a small
need. The habit of brushing your teeth, showering or hanging up your jacket.
They are just things you do on autopilot but do not resonate with you as creating
your success.
Habits are vitally important to your personal success and I would never dismiss
them as just mundane tasks but rituals are bigger.
All great habits eventually evolve into your success rituals. They go from
something you did daily to start creating change in your life to being part of your
continued success.
A success ritual is something you consciously choose to do daily because you
have proven that it adds to your personal success.
Waking up and having a drink of water is a habit. Waking up to your workout
2. clothes and shoes being laid out at the foot of the bed because you know you will
exercise if you do is a success ritual.
Rituals are what successful people use to be as successful as they are. Chance
or luck does not play into their formulas.
Superstitions
Success rituals are a must when it comes to living the life of your dreams.
If they are so important then how do rituals become superstitions and hold you
back?
Your ritual becomes a superstition when you start believing that your success
comes from the ritual and not who you are choosing to be.
When you blame your ritual for a failure it has now become a superstition.
Superstitions are a sign of living in the past which is how they become limiting
beliefs.
You start to believe you are not capable of success without your lucky rabbits
foot, having oatmeal for breakfast vs. toast or always putting your left sock on
first.
A great example is exercising.
You wake up, eat and head out the door to the gym.
You get there feeling great only to discover you left your watch at home. Oh no,
not your lucky watch, the watch that tells you everything you need to know like
how long you have rested and what time it is.
You consider the fact the gym has a clock or you could just count in your head but
it doesn’t feel the same without your watch.
At this point you consciously chose to let the missing watch destroy your
workout. Maybe you stayed, maybe you didn’t, either way mentally your workout
was ruined.
What happened? Has the watch been lifting the weights and sweating it out for
you. Was there some type of secret minerals the watch released to make you
super human?
You allowed the ritual of having your watch with you turn into a superstition.
3. Without your watch you were powerless to work out. Not really but that is what
you blamed not working out on.
You are not alone. I have experienced this where I left my workout book at home
that I always record my weights, sets and reps in. In my mind that book was the
lifeblood of my workout. You know what I did. I left the gym.
That is crazy isn’t it? I drove all the way there and then gave up.
Did I become physically incapable of working out at that moment? Did that book
have the map to the gym I would be lost without it?
No of course not.
I choose to stop believing it was me who was creating the success and instead
believed it was the book.
Superstitions vs. Success Rituals
You are your performance, not the shoes, equipment or what you ate for
breakfast.
Success rituals are important but you need to realize it is you who is choosing to
be the person needed to create that success.
Rituals are efficient and superstitions are inefficient.
If you have superstitions because you find them fun then great. If they affect
your personal performance, they need to go.
If you just couldn’t exercise today because your lucky (and most likely disgusting)
workout underwear happened to make their way into the laundry basket then you
need to revaluate your rituals.
You may believe that superstitions only apply to athletics but you will have them
for all areas of life if you do not keep in sight the fact you create your success by
who you choose to be daily. Athletes just seem to have the wildest and most
publicized superstitions.

Reflect on what your current daily habits are that may be success rituals in
disguise. Now take your known success rituals and see if you have made them
into superstitions.
