Oct 27 ECN Meeting Presentation - Working Together

Notes de l'éditeur

  1. I'm pleased to present this quick overview of our plans and progress. Built around the theme of Great Stories, New Ways. Let me give you an overview of this presentation and our progress on our Academic Plan goals.
  2. I’ll be taking you through our Academic Plan goals, our new approach to the communications team, an approach that is captured in the phrase “Great Stories, New Ways”. Then I’ll provide a quick assessment of our current state of communications, detail a bit of how we move towards our new paradigm and the progress we’ve already made. Finally, I’ll explain our next steps and will be pleased to take your questions. Let’s begin.

  11. First a quick review of our goals as set out in the Academic Plan. We are already planning a ENG DIY (do it yourself) toolkit for folks looking to communicate with our internal and external audiences. It will contain a variety of easy-to-use templates for flyers, presentations, videos, podcasts and other media types. We will be working soon on a facilitated discussion about refining our key messages, more about that later Many of the remaining goals boil down to understanding our audiences and giving them the content, stories and information they need to make good choices and to become engaged with the broad story we are telling and which we live. And, a lot of that means that we will have to tell ...

And, a lot of that means that we will have to tell ...
  14. Given that focus, I thought it would be useful to share my early assessments of the Faculty and its communications and interactions with our external and internal audiences. We have great stories here, but they are only great if we do a great job telling them, and I don’t think we’re quite there yet. We speak too much to ourselves and use words and media (use ornithopter example) that don’t resonate with a broader audience. So, our stories don’t work as hard for us as they might. Part of the reason is we don’t know many of our internal and external audiences well. We don’t understand their goals, expectations, limitations and media choices. And we don’t serve newer media and devices (social media, apps, mobile devices) as well as we could even though early research we’ve done suggests a lot of our audiences are connecting to us via smartphones, for example. The world of media, the nature of audiences and the media consumption and creation devices our audiences have in hand have changed dramatically. We have to respond in kind.

  16. So, lots of work done, lots ahead. I hope this quick overview was of service. I look forward to any questions you might have. Thanks for your kind attention.
