1. Anne FrankAnne Frank Beyond the Diary Book by: Ruud van der Rol and Rian Verhoeven Presentation by: Molly Brown
2. Time Line In February 1934, the Frank family moves to Amsterdam. This is courageous of Anne because it is scary for most little girls to move to a place where they don’t know anybody but their family. On July 6, 1942, the Frank family goes into hiding in the Secret Annex at 263 Prinsenggracht. This is courageous of Anne because going into hiding from Nazi soldiers trying to kill you would be scary to everyone especially children. Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929. On June 12, 1942, Anne receives a diary for her thirteenth birthday.
3. Time Line On November 16, 1942, Fritz Pfeiffer Moves into the Annex. This is couragous of Anne because it is nerve wracking to have another random person move in with you. On July 13, 1942, the Van Pels family joins the secret annex. This is couragous of Anne because she doesn’t know the new family and would find it nerve wracking to have another random person living with you while you’re in hiding. On August 4, 1944, all the families are found.
4. Time Line Everyone in the camp is sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. This is courageous of Anne because she does’t know what the new camp will be like and doesn’t know if it will be better or worse than the one before. In August 1944 everyone is discovered in the Secret Annex and are taken to the Westerbork Concentration camp. This is courageous of Anne because Anne knows that not only she could be killed, but she could lose many loved ones as well. In October 1944, Anne and her sister Margot are taken to the Bergen- Belsen Camp. This is courageous of Anne because they are being separated from loved ones possibly never to be seen again.
5. Time Line In the summer of 1947, the diary is found and published. In March 1945, Anne and Margot die in the Bergen-Belsen camp. This was courageous of Anne because I would guess that it would be very hard for her to step into a gas chamber and prepare to die.
6. ColorCollage Chatty Anne talked a lot during class which earned her a lot of extra homework. Jealous Anne was always jealous of her older sister Margot because people thought Margot was smarter and prettier than Anne. (Page 27) Popular Anne always had many friends including Eva Goldberg, and SanneLedermann. (page 24) Deep Anne would write in her diary every day sharing her thoughts and feelings. Intelligent Anne had a perfect report card except for a poor grade in algebra. (page 360)
7. Franks Culture Club This is a place where people of all religions can all get together and discuss their religions and cultures. By having knowledge about our differences and an understanding of what we have in common would help us to appreciate one another. During WWII there were people who just followed and didn’t question Hitler and his ideals. I think an open forum of discussion in a club such as this would have made people question what Hitler was trying to do. Anne would have loved a place like this where she can express her culture and not go into hiding just because some man says that her religion is forbidden

10. Anne’s Courage Cafe Memories Garden Salad- Crisp romaine, shaved carrot, sliced cucumbers, fresh tomato served with assorted dressings. As Anne packed her belongings to go into hiding during WWII, she said, “I put the craziest things with the idea that we are going into hiding, but I’m sorry, memories mean more to me than dresses.”
11. Anne’s Courage Cafe Curiosity Bruschetta- Grilled Crostini topped with seasoned tomatoes, garlic and basil. This dish represents how Anne’s parents encouraged her to be curious about other religions.
12. Anne’s Courage Cafe Kale & Bean Salad – A mix of fresh kale and green and yellow beans tossed in a light balsamic vinaigrette. Food was scarce while Anne’s family was in hiding. Anne describes one supper consisting of hash made from kale. She wrote, “ The smell in the room is a mixture of bad plums, strong preservatives and 10 rotten eggs. Ugh! The mere thought of eating that muck makes me feel sick!”
14. Anne’s Courage Cafe Courage Pizza – Pepperoni, mushroom, peppers, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. To celebrate the courage that Anne and her family had when trying to hide and survive during WWII.

18. Anne’s Courage Cafe Kitty Cake – Layer’s of moist chocolate cake, sweet mint ice cream and chocolate shavings wrapped in a fluffy white frosting. This cake symbolizes Anne’s 13th birthday where she received her best birthday present, the diary which she wrote in while her family was in hiding during WWII. She felt she could trust this diary with everything, so she called it her best friend and named it “Kitty”.
19. Anne’s Courage Cafe Secret Annex Chocolate Cake – rich dark chocolate cake stacked high with layers of rich bittersweet chocolate filling and topped with a delicate chocolate glaze. The Secret Annex was the hiding place which kept Anne and her family safe from the Germans for a little over 2 years. (July 1942-August 1944)
20. Song About Courage I chose this song because it reminded me of how Anne and her family persevered when trying to stay hidden from German police. The Lyrics in this song talk about wanting freedom and wondering when that will come.
