Your design must be well composed, visually striking, with a very tangible sense of UNITY. There will be
a balance between repetition (uniformity) and variety and the work will not be muddled or confusing. Your
subject must be represented in a clever way and the text must be legible. Remember that in good design,
sometimes less is more, and that the best way to communicate content is to find a striking image that
represents something essential about your subject. Do not be obvious, but neither should the work be
cryptic or incomprehensible.
Stay away from over complex color schemes (2-3 colors should be fine), highly complex photographic
images or rendering. Simple, bold, forceful and direct images and representational strategies work best.
We are not trying to paint the Sistine Chapel here, just make a poster with an immediate and clear
2. message. Please create a nice balance between positive and negative space, and do not over use text.
Your text should be readable and not swallowed by your design.
You must first create 3 drafts of your image representing 3 possible approaches to the design. The draft
images must be sketches with some color and not just some scribbled stick figures. Do not take too much
time on this, but you will only receive full credit if you demonstrate that you considered more than
one idea. Process is as important as the finished product.
Objectives:
Use of at least 3 design principles
Use of at least 3 visual elements.
Demonstration of process.
Successful integration of content and form.
Successful use of chosen media.
Demonstration of ability to create Unity in your work.
