Inverters
• Needed at places where it is not possible to get direct AC supply from
mains.
• Used to convert AC power to DC power.
• Inverters True/pure sine wave inverters
Quasi/modified inverters
Modified inverters produce a square wave and these are not used to
power delicate electronic equipments. Therefore,a simple voltage driven
inverter circuit using power transistors as switching devices is built
which converts 12V DC signal to single phase 220V AC .

Principle
-To produce oscillations using the given DC
-Apply these oscillations across the primary of the transformer by
amplifying the current.
-This primary voltage is then stepped up to a higher voltage depending
upon the number of turns in primary and secondary coils.

• Transistors(MJ2955) - 2
• Resistor(3WATT68R) - 2

• Step up Transformer(TRAN-2P3S) - 1

Working
In the process of 12 V to 220v conversion, three major processes
takesplace;
-Supply
-Conversion
-Transformation
Role of Battery
-Every circuit requires some sort of energy to perform required
function.Here,we use a 12 V battery to perform supply process.

Role of Transistor
The process of coversion of DC to AC requires a mechanism that allows
just the positive side of the sinusoidal wave of AC to pass through it and
hence one can get only one side of the output wave of current.In the
case of low and medium applications,power transistors are used.The
reason behind this is that;
Transistors have
-low cost
-low output impedance
-Allow most of power to pass through it.
-Transistor work as switch.
-Saturation region and cut off region of the transistor are used in this
experiment.

Role of Transformer
The voltage from the transistor that is rectified and has the direction only
on one side is fed at its input.Tansformer tansforms low voltage to high
voltage.The ability of the transform to amplify the voltage depends upon
the no.of turns of the coil on its terminals.

Applications
• Can be used in cars and other vehicles to charge small batteries.
• Used to drive low power AC motors.
• Can be used in solar power system.
• Uninterrupted power supplies(UPS)
• Reaction power controllers
• Adapted power filters

Limitations
• Use of transistors reduce the efficiency of the circuit.
• Use of switching transisitors has the possibility of causing cross over
distortion in the output signal.It can be reduced to some extent by use
of biasing diodes.
