The daily lesson plan outlines a science lesson for 17 students on magnets. The students will review magnet properties and create a magnetic book to assess their understanding. S3P2. Students will investigate magnets and how they affect other magnets and common
objects.
a. Investigate to find common objects that are attracted to magnets.
b. Investigate how magnets attract and repel each other.
Objectives: The students have learned about different types of magnets, their magnetic fields,
the north and south poles and have found various items that magnets are attracted to. Today the
students will create a magnetic book that will be used as a formative assessment. A rubric will be
used to score the book and the students will need to make at least 70 % accuracy on the book to
successfully complete this unit.
Procedures:
Introduction: TTW tell the students that the magnet unit is coming to an end and to wrap up all
of the information, we are going to create a Magnet Book. TTW say you will be able to create
the book to review and remember the content about Magnets. TTW say let’s review magnets by
watching a brief video about magnets. TTW show the students the Magnetism and Magnets
video on YouTube.
Implementation: TTW review the main concepts learned about magnets. TTW begin by
discussing the features of a magnet. TTW review magnetic poles and the characteristics of each
pole. TTW also review the magnetic field and common uses for each magnet. TTW then tell the
students that their page needs to be structured, yet creative. At this point in the lesson, the teacher
will group the students into groups of 4. There will be 5 groups of 4 and each group will receive
an iPad. The students will watch a Brain Pop video and take the quiz as a group.
Modeling/ Examples: After the students have reviewed magnets, the students will get ready to
create their books. If there are enough devices for the students, each student will complete their
book using the Book Creator for iPads. If there are not enough, the students will complete a
regular book and then create an electronic book. The teacher will distribute the paper and
materials needed for the book. Each table will be given construction paper, pencils, markers,

2. glue, pictures, staplers, and other arts and crafts. The teacher will tell the students that they will
create a title page, table of contents, 6-8 pages with information, a glossary and reference page.
The students will also have pictures of magnets with captions and diagrams of magnets or
experiments.
Guided Practice: TTW guide the students through the process of creating a book using the
Book Creator for iPad. The teacher will review all the notes that were recorded and give the
students an opportunity to include the information in their books. TTW tell the students to follow
along as they partition the book into specific sections. The students will have a page that has
different types of magnets, a page that discuss the north and south pole, a page that list different
things that are attracted to magnets, a page that has different things that repel, a page that has
discusses the magnetic field, and a page that has common things that use magnets. TTW tell the
students to go online to the Follet Shelf to review E-books that will assist them in completing
their books.
Independent Practice: The students will all use iPads to look up information about magnets.
The students will finish their books independently. The students will be required to find at least
three facts online about magnets. The students will also include one experiment in their book.
They will provide the materials and directions in their book.
Closure: TTW tell the students to share their books with their classmates. TTW you all have
worked hard and learned a lot of information about magnets. In order to hold on to all of our
knowledge, we have created books that will last forever. Inside each book, you should find
information pertaining to the magnetic field, poles, and common things that are attracted to
magnets. You should also be able to find different types of magnets and pictures and diagrams.
Today and everyday as you explore the objects around you, be sure to think of the things that are
magnetic and the characteristics of a magnet.

Evaluation : The students books will be evaluated using the following rubric. The students will
score their books based on the rubric. The students must have at least 7/9 in order to move on.
