Reflexive verbs seen in class.

1. Reflexive verbs “REFLECT”
the action on the speaker.
A verb is reflexive when the
subject and the object are the same.
I wash myself. subject: I
verb: wash
object: myself

2. When a verb is reflexive, the infinitive ends in "se."
lavar to wash (non-reflexive)
lavarse to wash oneself (reflexive)
acostar to put to bed (non-reflexive)
acostarse to go to bed (reflexive)
peinar to comb (non-reflexive)
peinarse to comb oneself (reflexive)

3. Conjugar
lavarse: to wash oneself
yo me lavo I wash (myself)
tú te lavas you wash (yourself)
ella se lava she washes (herself)
we wash (ourselves)
nosotros nos lavamos
vosotros os laváisyou all wash (yourselves)
ellos se lavan they wash (themselves)

4. maquillarse: to make oneself up
yo me maquillo
tú te maquillas
ella se maquilla
nosotros nos maquillamos
vosotros os maquilláis
ellas se maquillan
Ellas se maquillan en el espejo.

5. bañarse: to take a bath
Ella se baña con agua caliente.

6. despertarse: to wake up (e:ie)
*This is also a stem changing verb
yo me despierto
tú te despiertas
ella se despierta
nosotros nos despertamos
vosotros os despertáis
ellos se despiertan
I wake up, you wake up, he/she/it wakes up etc...
Carlos se despierta a las seis y media.

7. Divertirse (e>ie): un verbo reflexivo
Another stem changer!
divertirse: to have fun
yo me divierto
tú te diviertes
ella se divierte
nosotros nos divertimos
vosotros os divertís
ellos se divierten
