2. History of Rock
• The history of rock music isn't cut and dry. Many individuals debate who the first rock singer
was and what the first rock song was. However, it is known that the history of rock music
comes from the old R&B mixed with some country and western and fused with a little
rockabilly.
• The exact time period that the history or rock music started in is not known. There were rock
and roll elements showing up in blues songs and old country western songs as far back as
the 20's and 30's. By the 1950's the history or rock music had begun.
• The phrase rock and roll used to have a sexual connotation attached to it. The phrase
sometimes contained to two meanings. It appeared to mean dancing but was also
associated with sex. It was first used in the title of Trixi Smith's 1920's song, “My baby rocks
me with one steady roll.” However, it was Alan Freed a disc jockey from Ohio that first came
up with the phrase rock and roll in 1955. With that, the history of rock music was well under
way.
• As stated before, just who started the history of rock music is under debate. This is because
rock and roll music evolved from different genres and some songs that belonged to the
blues, jazz, country, and gospel genres offered elements that could be considered rock and
roll. However, it was Bill Haley's song, “Rock around the clock” that became popular enough
to top the Billboard music charts.
• In the history or rock music there have been many icons. Among the earliest rock stars are
names like Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard. These early stars of the history or rock
music led to the popularization or rock and a culture change that shocked the world. The
dance crazes, fashion styles, and pop culture that followed the early history of rock music
were made possible by these early stars.

6. The Rolling Stones
• FORMED: January 1963, London, England
The Rolling Stones define rock 'n' roll. They are the longest running
act in the history of rock music, having remained wildly popular and
prodigiously productive over their 30-year career. The group was
formed by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, who met as schoolmates
in Dartford, Kent. The legend has them bumping into each other on
the platform at Dartford railway station, where Keith notices a blues
album under Mick's arm. A bond is struck immediately and the pair
go on to form a band with a variety of personnel, who eventually
include a boogie-woogie pianist called Ian Stewart and a gifted
blonde blues guitarist from Cheltenham called Brian Jones
(although at the time he is calling himself Elmo Lewis for added
authenticity).

7. The beatles
The Beatles were the most influential popular music group of the rock era. They
affected the post-war baby boom generation of Britain, the United States and many
other countries during the 1960s. Certainly they are the most popular group in rock
history, with global sales exceeding 1.1 billion records.
While they were originally famous for what some labelled light-weight pop music (and
the extreme hysterical reaction they received from young women), their later works
achieved a combination of popular and critical acclaim perhaps unequaled in the 20th
century. Eventually, they became more than recording artists, branching out into film
and — particularly in the case of John Lennon — political activism. They achieved an
iconic status with far reaching effects.
The classic Beatles lineup consisted of John Lennon (guitar), (James) Paul
McCartney (bass), George Harrison (guitar), and Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey)
(drums), all from Liverpool, Merseyside, in England.

8. Ac/dc
AC/DC is an Australian rock band and considered pioneers of hard rock and heavy
metal music. The group was formed in Sydney, Australia in December, 1973. Their
albums have sold in colossal numbers — the total is now estimated to be around
100 million copies worldwide.
AC/DC is generally divided into 'Bon Scott era (1974-80)' and 'Brian Johnson era
(1980-present)'. Some fans have a preference, others point to the merits of both
singers and appreciate them equally.
Stiff Upper Lip is the 17th album from a group that many would call the world’s
greatest rock band. The 12-song disc finds AC/DC as unflappable as ever, a
vibrant, vital rock band at the top of their game.
