PRE-SEA TRAINING FOR DECK CADETS 7208003062/61/64 Diploma in Nautical Science leading to Bsc in Nautical Science Approved By D.G Shipping (Govt of India) Affiliated to Indian Maritime University ( IMU- Chennai) Duration One Year at Institute and 18 Months Onboard ship. Course Commences on 1st August and 1st Feb Every Year. And 06 months for Examination etc. Eligibility Criteria Education Qualification 10+2 or equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with a PCM aggregate of not less than 60%. OR With Physics as individual subject in one of the year, B.Sc. in Physics, Mathmatics, Chemistry or Electronics with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year. OR B.E./B.Tech. Degree Should have passed in the English language as a subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or in the Degree/Diploma course, conducted by the Board or any University with not less than 50% marks. Age Limit Not more than 25 years on date of commencement of the training course. The age limit is relaxable by 2 years in case of girl candidates. Physical Standards. Physical Standards Medically fit as per the standards set by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000. Eyesight 6/6 in each eye without visual aids and no color blindness. Candidates have to undergo a full eyesight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department before being finally selected for the course. Do you like travailing by sea, detest a 9 to 5 routine, want a financially comfortable job and don’t mind
long stretches away from home..? A career in merchant navy may be what you should opt for. In a
nutshell, the merchant navy is a commercial business and involves basic navigation skill from port to
port, loading and unloading cargo while ensuring safety of the ship. Sea cargo transportation takes
99% of the world cargo market and leaves about 1% only (by weight) for the air transportation
industry. The logistics transportation by using the cargo vessels still being the best alternative for
shippers and consignees, because carrying on the goods/cargos by ships are safer, low freight in
comparison to air transportation, and also it can carry bulk quantities.
