2. Area of Expertise:
I. Event Management
The following slides are prepared to
address the extent of my event planning,
organizational skills
3. Extensive Experience on Business Event
Planning
• International Workshops
• MPL1 Program Meetings
• Departmental Physics Seminars
• Campus-Wide, UIC Brown Bag seminars
1 Microphysics Laboratory at the Department of Physics
4. International Workshops
• US Workshop on the Physics and Chemistry of II-VI
Materials: The purpose of this workshop is to bring together the
industrial, governmental, and academic communities that work with
II-VI materials. It is a 3-day workshop, organized every year in the
September – November time frame.
• International Symposium on the Optical Materials and
Devices: The goal of this symposium is to offer a venue for
discussions and the exchange of ideas in the areas of solar
photovoltaics, infrared photovoltaics and light emitting diodes
(LEDs). It is a 2-day symposium, organized every other year,
typically in summer months.
5. International Workshops
I. US Workshop on the Physics and Chemistry of II-VI
Materials: I was involved in the organization of this workshop as:
– On site coordinator: 2003 – 2007, 2009
• Work with the presenters (+100) to ensure smooth transition between
presenters and sessions.
• Assist organizing committee members in chairing workshop sessions

II. International Symposium on the Optical Materials and
Devices: Have taken an active role from beginning to the end in
the planning and organizing of this symposium in 2002, 2008, 2010
particularly when it is Chicago-based. The current plan for the
symposium is to organize it in Chicago every even years. My
efforts are focused on:
– In advance planning on various aspects of the symposium
organization: location, catering, entertainment and A/V needs
– Marketing and publicizing the event
– Maintaining a budget

between presenters and sessions, coordination with hotel or
on-site representatives
– After symposium follow up with the presenters for their future
participation

9. Other Events and Meetings
• MPL program kick off & closing meetings
Since its inception in mid 80s, Microphysics Laboratory has
obtained more than $ 18 Million in external funding to support
research programs in the area of Infrared (IR) and Night Vision
Detector Technology. Since 2002, I have been partially or fully
involved with the planning and organization of various meetings -
internal and external- that these programs have called for.
10. Other Events and Meetings
I participate in many departmental and campus wide initiatives such as:
• Departmental seminars, colloquiums:
I join Physics Department in the planning and organization of
various departmental seminars, committee meetings (i.e.
GAANN1 program) and colloquiums where invited speakers
invited to give a review talk in their area of expertise.
• UIC Brown-Bag seminars:
One of my responsibilities as a CCSW – AP2 co-chair is to plan,
organize, host or assist with the organizing of events (brown bag
seminars) and initiatives for subcommittee.
1Graduate Assistance in the Area of National Need (GAANN) in Applied Physics program sponsored by US Dept of Education
2Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women (CCSW) Academic Professionals (AP) subcommittee at UIC
11. How I started at UIC?
• Joined Microphysics Laboratory (MPL) as a
Graduate Student in 2001 while studying for my
Masters in Business Administration (MBA) Degree
in Marketing.
• After graduation, in 2003, I accepted an offer from
Physics Department to serve as the “Visiting
Project Coordinator” of MPL, reporting directly to
the director of the laboratory, Prof. Siva
Sivananthan. One year later, the position became
permanent.
